Counseling Philosophy

I am a licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC) with over 10 years of experience working in school, outpatient and residential treatment settings. I particularly enjoy working with children (ages 6 and up), adolescents and young adults (18-30) in the areas of depression, anxiety, school or work related stress, relationship concerns, trauma and substance abuse. I think it is essential that the relationship between client and therapist be seen as a partnership and I use warmth and humor to help my clients feel safe and comfortable so they can open up and speak honestly. My main goal in therapy is to help clients look at their problems from a different angle, as I believe the way we think about our situations directly relates to the feelings those situations create in us. Everyone is unique and has their own "story" therefore I find it most effective to develop a personalized treatment plan based on individual needs, goals, values and strengths.
