Interests

Mary Ellen Wivel has two masters’ degrees and has practiced the art of psychotherapy for over 20 years.  Her specialty area is mental health issues concerning girls and women.  Through her help you can learn to identify new ways of coping; tap into creative energies; enhance self-compassion and esteem; maneuver the rough terrain of the dating scene; tackle tough decisions about staying or leaving relationships; mourn the loss of significant others, jobs, or good physical health; move through and past childhood trauma; and cope with chronic pain.  Ms. Wivel treats depression, anxiety, adjustment disorders, PTSD, bipolar disorder, personality disorder, and provides assessments for those considering bariatric surgery.  Ms. Wivel is trained in brief therapy techniques.  She also has received two years of additional training in psychotherapy through the Washington School of Psychiatry, Washington, D.C., and is a certified practitioner of hypnotherapy through the American Academy of Hypnosis, Inc., Silver Spring, MD.  She has recently produced a CD entitled, “Managing Your Pain” which is available for purchase.
